Common BenQ Faults & Fixes

The "Death Rattle" — Colour Wheel Failure
A loud buzzing or high-pitched screeching noise indicates the colour wheel bearing is failing. If ignored, the glass wheel will shatter, filling the optical engine with debris. We replace the colour wheel assembly and balance the new unit to eliminate vibration.
White / Black Dots (DMD Chip Failure)
The "Starry Night" effect — white or black dots across the image. The DMD chip has overheated and micromirrors are stuck in the on or off position. We replace the DMD chip and upgrade the thermal interface material to prevent recurrence.
Overheating & Thermal Shutdown
BenQ units have strict fan speed sensors. If a fan slows due to dust accumulation, the unit shuts off to protect the lamp. We replace fans with OEM MagLev units and deep-clean the entire cooling pathway, including heatsinks and air ducts.
Lamp Ignition Failure
The ballast attempts to strike the lamp 3 times but fails to establish an arc. If a new lamp does not resolve it, the ballast high-voltage stage has failed. We rebuild the ballast ignition circuit at component level.
BlueCore Laser Thermal Shutdown
On laser models (LU/LK series), a "Light Source" error is equivalent to a Lamp error but refers to the laser bank drivers or phosphor wheel synchronisation. We diagnose the laser driver board and replace the phosphor wheel if degraded.
Android TV System Freezing
Smart models (EH600, EW800ST, X3100i) suffer from firmware corruption causing boot loops or app crashes. We re-flash the Android firmware and, where necessary, replace the eMMC storage chip.

BenQ projectors indicate faults via POWER, TEMP and LAMP LED combinations. Interpret the pattern before booking.
