Epson Projector Repair

Epson is the world's leading 3LCD projector manufacturer, producing the most natural colours in the industry. The optical engine is complex: three LCD panels must be aligned to within a micron. We are the UK's leading Epson 3LCD specialists with factory-grade convergence tools.

Common Epson Faults & Fixes

Our technicians regularly resolve these Epson 3LCD-specific issues.

Discolouration — Yellow or Pink Tint

The image develops a yellow or pink tint. The organic polarising plates in the optical engine have degraded due to heat and UV exposure. We rebuild the optical engine with new inorganic polarisers to restore perfect white balance and brightness uniformity.

Overheating (Temp LED Flashing)

The temperature LED flashes red and the unit shuts down. While often caused by blocked filters, it can also indicate a failed thermal sensor on the LCD panel. We clean all airways and test or replace thermal protection circuits.

Lamp Ignition Failure

The projector attempts to start but the lamp never strikes. This is usually a failed ballast (high-voltage power supply). We test the ballast under load and replace it if the output voltage is below specification.

Auto-Iris Motor Failure

The auto-iris mechanism in home cinema models (EH-TW9400, EH-LS12000B) sticks or produces clicking noises. This reduces dynamic contrast. We disassemble the iris, clean the mechanism, and replace the stepper motor if necessary.

LCD Panel Degradation

Individual LCD panels age at different rates, causing colour non-uniformity across the image. Visible as green/magenta tints in corners or vertical banding. We recalibrate convergence to factory spec or replace degraded panels.

Lens Shift Mechanism Jamming

The motorised lens shift in EH-TW and EH-LS series stops responding or drifts from stored positions. We service the lens assembly drive mechanism and recalibrate the position sensors.

Epson 3LCD Technology Explained

Understanding how 3LCD works helps you identify issues early and make informed repair decisions.

How 3LCD Works

White light is split into red, green, and blue. Each colour passes through a dedicated LCD panel, then recombined via a prism. This produces natural colours with no rainbow effect.

Why It Degrades

Organic polarisers degrade under heat and UV. Dust settles on panel faces causing "dust blobs." Thermal cycling loosens prism alignment causing convergence drift.

Our Repair Approach

Clean-room optical block disassembly. Replace polarisers with inorganic equivalents. Precision convergence alignment to sub-pixel accuracy. Full brightness and colour calibration.

Epson Repair Value

Epson projectors are built to last. A professional repair is highly cost-effective compared to replacement.

Cost of Replacement

EH-LS12000B costs £4,000+. EH-TW9400 costs £2,500+. Even entry-level models are £500+.

Cost of Repair

Polariser replacement from £200. Optical block rebuild from £350. Ballast repair from £150. All with 90-day warranty.
